Buy Alder Wood Chips online
Buy Alder Wood Chips online Europe. Our alder wood chips are made exclusively from clean, non-chemically treated alder wood from local, certified forests in Portugal. Thanks to their fine structure, low humidity (below 12%) and natural origin, they are ideal for gardening, agriculture, animal husbandry, composting and decorative purposes. We offer them in practical packages from 50 liters to pallet quantities for companies. All our chips are free of dust, crumbling and foreign impurities.
Alder wood chips are produced from alder wood, a species common in European wetlands and riverbanks. Unlike many coniferous chips, alder is a hardwood, which gives it unique advantages. According to forestry studies, such as those from the Forest Research Institute, hardwoods like alder can offer better durability and a different nutrient profile when used as mulch.
Key characteristics include:
- Naturally Low in Tannins: This makes it less likely to negatively affect soil pH compared to oak or other hardwoods.
- Fast Decomposition: As a softer hardwood, it breaks down more readily, enriching the soil with organic matter faster.
- High Absorbency: Its fibrous structure makes it excellent for absorbing moisture in animal bedding.
- Good Calorific Value: With a moisture content below 25%, it provides a reliable and efficient heat source for biomass boilers.
Key Benefits of Using Alder Wood Chips
1. For Gardening and Landscaping
As a garden mulch, alder wood chips are superior. They create a protective layer that suppresses weeds, retains soil moisture, and regulates temperature. Because they decompose relatively quickly, they add valuable organic matter back into the soil, improving its structure and fertility over time. They are perfect for flower beds, vegetable patches, and around trees and shrubs.
2. For Animal Bedding
The soft, dust-free nature of our alder wood chips makes them a comfortable and safe bedding for a variety of animals. They are highly absorbent, helping to keep enclosures dry and hygienic. They are a popular choice for poultry, rabbits, and other small livestock. Their natural origin means there are no added chemicals or fragrances that could irritate animals.
3. For Biomass Heating
For biomass boilers, especially those designed for wood chips, alder is an excellent fuel. Its consistent size and moisture content ensure a steady and efficient feed into the boiler, leading to optimal combustion and heat generation. It is a renewable, carbon-neutral alternative to fossil fuels.
